The MyFitnessPal deal is likely to close in the first quarter of fiscal 2015. These apps also allow their huge fraternity to act as motivators to each other.
Denmark-based Endomondo with 20 million users, mostly in Europe, is a virtual fitness trainer that helps to track workouts and analyze performance. San Francisco-based MyFitnessPal, developed by Mark Lee, is one of the leading fitness apps, with over 5 million foods in its calorie database and over 100 exercises along with best fitness technology partners. These apps, collectively, will provide both athletes and individuals with a comprehensive guide to diet and exercise, hence assisting athletes in eventually improving their performance. These buyouts, along with its existing MapMyFitness and UA RECORD suite of applications, help it to form the largest digital health and fitness community, with more than 120 million unique registered users. The above-mentioned acquisitions, along with the company’s current offerings MapMyFitness (acquired in Dec 2013) and UA Record, have helped the retailer to set up the largest digital and fitness community. These acquisitions are a part of Under Armour’s strategy to aggressively expand in the fitness space and gain a competitive edge over its rivals Nike, Inc. Last month, the company took over another fitness app Endomondo for $85 million. (UA) has acquired the popular calorie counting app MyFitnessPal for $475 million.
